Cyclone devastated Quang Binh, 2 people died, 21 were injured

At 1:00 am on October 16, a big whirlwind swept through Long and Ha Son villages (Quang Son commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh) with great devastation.

Commune People's Committee and people said that two men over 50 years old were killed, the initial statistics had 21 people injured. Many people collapsed and were blown away, fell into the body. More than 250 houses were destroyed, many of them completely collapsed.

Not only Quang Son commune, Quang Minh commune beside it was also swept over by the cyclone, damaging nearly 10 houses.

After the whirlwind, the flood on the Ha Giang river belongs to the Rao Nan river system which rises abruptly. Present at Long village at 8:15 am, PV was unable to enter the village due to the rapid rise of water which deeply flooded the two villages.

People had to leave their homes and hold small children running in the flood even though the houses were deserted because the whirlwinds had not been cleaned up yet. Many people lost their homes because of the whirlwinds, running and crying.

During this time, the sky was pouring rain again, the wind was so big that the traveling of the people was difficult.

In the morning, students from Quang Son commune went to school but had to return home because the whole commune could be seriously flooded.

Quang Trach District People's Committee said that he had mobilized canoes and rescue forces to Quang Son to support people in the flood.

Electricity in two districts of Quang Trach and Bo Trach is lost in many places.

10h25 noon 16/10, Mr. Nguyen Luong Binh - deputy secretary of Minh Hoa District Party Committee - said about 3:30 am a flash flood flattened and pushed all 3 houses of Mr. Tran Thuong, Cao Tu and Cao Xuan Truong in Minh Xuan village, Xuan Hoa commune left the floor.

The people in these three houses heard the sound of the water so strong that they promptly escaped to a high place. Thankfully, Mr. Tran Thuong's house only had two elderly people but promptly escaped the flash flood.

At 10h10, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Khanh, deputy head of Dong Hoi, said that the North-South railway was congested due to flooding on the section from Le Son area to Dong Le town, Tuyen Hoa district. Local trains from Dong Hoi to Vinh to Tho Loc station must return to Dong Hoi station.

At present, Dong Hoi station, SE6 train from Saigon to Hanoi is also waiting for clearance.

"If the flood causes a long-term yoke the industry will have plans to coordinate passengers ," Khanh said.
