According to initial survey data, Son Tra Nature Reserve (Da Nang) currently has about 12 herds with about 198 individuals of brown-shanked douc langur. This is one of the most beautiful primates in the world.
However, during the past time, the construction of massively used rock mines to open the road at Son Tra peninsula has significantly affected the habitat of this particular rare primate. Many of them have been captured alive and dead due to entanglements or being too frightened.
The International Conservation Society for Douc Langur (DLF) says it is necessary to develop a plan for conservation of the red-shanked douc langur, which is considered a special priority in the biodiversity conservation program from now to 2020.
