Unexpectedly discovered 3 herds of rare brown-shanked douc langur

Three rare brown-shanked douc langur has been discovered by the forest protection force at Bac Hai Van protection forest (Lang Co town, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province) with a number of more than 70 individuals.

On the morning of November 10, after a long time with forest rangers searching and tracking, at 11:00 pm we discovered at the 9th floor, Subdivision 250 had about 10 individuals of douc langurs. Brown (another name is five-colored langur) appears in the area quite close to the road through Hai Van Pass.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Van, Head of Forest Protection and Management Department - North Hai Van Protection Forest Management Board said that, besides the location of the langurs found in Sub-area 250, Ho Nai area, the forest rangers still discovered Add 2 langurs in the other 2 areas of Subdivision 250 and 251 in about 70 individuals.

Currently, in these 3 sub-areas, there is a total forest area of ​​nearly 3,300 ha, of which natural forests are nearly 1,500 ha, planted forests are nearly 1,400 ha.

Red- shanked douc langur is called Pygathrix nemaeus of the endangered animal species listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the world needs strict protection. Therefore, after discovering the langurs, Bac Hai Van Protection Forest Management Board has strengthened the protection of this langur.

Bac Hai Van protection forest covers an area of ​​nearly 10,500 ha. Since 1995, the State has had many investment projects to protect and develop forests in the Bac Hai Van Pass area. Thanks to the strict implementation of forest protection work, the impoverished forests have previously become lush green forests, which has contributed to bringing many rare and precious animals back to live here.

Professional agencies need to have immediate protection plans and surveys to preserve this langur herd.
