Detection of genes that cause ovarian cancer

A group of scientists has discovered new gene variants related to ovarian cancer, Nature Genetics, 19/09, said.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most common diseases in women and has a very high death rate. (Illustration).

Andrew Berchuck, PhD, Duke University conducted DNA analysis of more than 10,000 women with cancer in the control room and more than 13,000 other healthy women.

As a result, scientists have discovered five new gene variants in different areas of the genome that are linked to ovarian cancer . Four of these 5 variants are very common in women with serous ovarian cancer, a common and most dangerous form of the disease.

Dr Berchuck said these findings will help monitor for early signs of ovarian cancer for effective and timely treatment.

In addition, another study published in the journal also showed that scientists at Cambridge University, UK, have discovered the chromosome 19 area may affect ovarian cancer risk.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most common genital cancer in women. This is a common genital cancer and has the second highest mortality rate after cervical cancer.
