Korean scientists have discovered an unprecedented large piece of fossilized skin of a lizard-like dinosaur that lived in the early Cretaceous period, or Cretaceous period.
In a statement on December 4, a group of scientists from Pukyong National University said the fossil was found on one of Gunbuk's sites in Haman town, South Gyeongsang province, in the southeastern part of the country.
New dinosaur skin pieces were found.
With a diameter of 50cm, this is the largest fossil skin piece of a lizard foot dinosaur recorded in the world ever.
Through the study of this piece of fossil, the scientists identified the polygonal skin texture of some lizard foot dinosaurs in the Cretaceous period that had developed well, which could cover almost all of their foot pads, similar to elephants today, making them able to travel firmly on muddy and wet ground.
Professor Paik In-sung, who led the study, said that although some fossil dinosaur footprints have been found in many parts of the world, the case of detecting a fossilized skin "is preserved in dinosaur footprints are very rare ".
The findings have been published in the latest edition of the Scientific Reports of the prestigious Nature (Nature) magazine.
