The tomb dates back to the 8th century, ie 1300 years ago and was found at a depth of 1.5 meters below the royal palace of Uxul, Campeche, Mexico.
The beautifully carved ceramic cup is found in the grave.
The corpse of the prince was placed in his supine position, his hands folded in front of his chest. Archaeologists estimate that the age of the prince ranges around 20-25.
According to LiveScience, archaeologists believe that Uxul was once the residence and reign of the kings of the Kaan dynasty in Calakmul, but since the beginning of the 9th century, it has been almost completely abandoned.
Many artifacts such as earthenware are found in the grave, suggesting that this is a tomb of a prince. The brick walls are supported by a barrier, a typical architectural feature of Maya culture. Surrounding the prince's remains, there are many luxurious items of the era, such as 4 porcelain plates and 5 porcelain cups in an almost intact state.
They are all decorated with beautiful drawings, including a plate drawing the skull of the dead. An inscription on the cup wrote: 'this is the cup of the young prince'.

Besides, archaeologists have also found many jewels that show the position of the prince, though he may not be a lineage to inherit the throne.
Located near the border between the province of Campeche, Mexico and Guatemala, the ancient city of Uxul used to be one of the busy trading cities of the Mayan Empire during the Classic era (from 250-950 AD). It was discovered in 1934 by two archaeologists Karl Rupert and John Denison.
