Discovering the mystery in the ground of ancient My Son tower
As PV reported, recently when the rainwater flowed, it revealed the sandstone Linga statue at My Son heritage, at the top of the statue with the relief of the statue of Siva - called Mukhalinga. This is different from the previously discovered Linga statues. It is the differences of this Linga statue that reveal more about the mysteries in the ground of the Cham My Son tower .
Archaeologists conduct excavations under the soil of Mi Son
has revealed thousands of sandstone, brick and tile artifacts .
Not to wait until the statue of Linga with the Siva relief carved on the head of the statue was discovered accidentally by the flood, but earlier in many archaeological excavations at My Son Sanctuary of the Institute of Archeology In conjunction with the Center for Heritage Preservation, Quang Nam relics have uncovered the underground mysteries of the Cham My Son relic, the World Cultural Heritage site.
According to archaeologists, they are continuing to study more deeply about the newly discovered artifacts, as well as thousands of previously discovered artifacts in the underground area of the Cham My Son tower that have been shown to have been there is an ancient My Son in the ground, with many layers of architecture of different dynasties coexisting.
Results reported in archaeological excavations in the past many years in the area of My Son ancient tower indicate that in 3 excavated holes, there are symbols: H1, H2, H3 in the eastern area of Group D, and one slot card slot section, on a total area of 390m2. Archaeologists have discovered more than 445 artifacts including many types of architectural components such as stone, brick, tile .
Interestingly, stone architectural materials discovered in this excavation consisted of 235 artifacts of various sizes, shaped quite differently, with many patterns.
A sandstone architecture found under My Son underground
Through research, archaeologists have discovered the function of each artifact found in the architecture as a stone stick 1.78m long, 0.42m thick, 0.43m wide with two circular mortise, determined to be mi door. The trace shows that this lash is used to create elliptical wear.
There are 6 stone bars, of which the longest bar is 2.12m, thickness is 0.22m, width is 0.24m, is shaped in straight square shape, the two ends have convex links attached, is defined as the door column. Especially, there is a door column consisting of 3 stone bars put together to create the octagonal shape 1.05m long, 0.34m big edge, 0.18m thick.
According to the archaeologist's initial opinion, it may be the column of architecture dating back early. Many stone artifacts with decorative and compact shapes, the surface has many different decorative patterns.
Many brick artifacts are found often in light red color, not high burning temperature, middle of light gray core, plant residue brick bone, moisture absorption, high water absorption. Measured brick size is 0.26m x 0.16m x 0.05m. Patterns carved on bricks often represent winding flowers, plant leaves, but are mainly carved into submerged and floating blocks, creating decorative blocks in architecture.
It is worth noting that four blocks of bricks found at the H2 excavation pit were identified by archaeologists as being built with a solid block assembly technique, which is closely coupled with no adhesive.
The carved surface block is decorated with a vertical tape, showing twisted sinusoidal pattern with twisted hook patterns. The two sides are carved with two circular columns with semi-circular rings, which are divided into a series of harmoniously connected pieces. The expressive style represents the main theme, creating the rhythm in the architectural composition.
In addition to architectural objects made of stone and brick, thousands of pieces of tile were discovered, with different types such as acoustic tile, ocean tile, tube tile head, leaf-shaped tile roof . and two pieces of ceramic pieces including crowns and body piece. The mouth of the mouth is dark yellow, the mouth is round, the bend is narrow, the diameter is 0.11m.
The initial judgment of archaeologists may be this piece of broken Kendi mouth. The ceramic body is dark yellow, so that it is smooth and not decorated with patterns, inside there are traces of processing techniques by turntable.
According to initial comments by archaeologists who participated in the excavation, these are components of fully crafted stone structures, considered to be part of a collapsed stone tower structure. to dump.
Although the tower base has not been found yet, archaeologists have made the initial comment that this may be a temple tower built in the 9th and 13th centuries, collapsed to be discovered at high levels. from 0.9 to 2.3m deep compared to the existing ground floor. Artifacts have been documented, protected and displayed on site for research and sightseeing.
An assumption made by archaeologists is quite interesting, which is the basis of the artifacts found at excavated holes H1, including tile fragments, stone architectures, which initially gave the impression that this is a trace. architecture of a building with a tiled roof. The type of tile found in My Son underground is often discovered in the ancient capital of Tra Kieu and is usually dated early around the 9th century.
The newly discovered architectures leave a trail of incline toward the card slot stream. This may be the cause of the inclination and subsidence of existing architectural works. Therefore, the issue in the geological survey of the tower is a necessary work for the preservation of the architectural works of the heritage . Professor, Dr. Tran Trung Tin, Deputy Director of the Institute Vietnamese archeology said.
And Dr. Le Dinh Phung, Vietnam Institute of Archeology, made the remark: 'When studying the architectural works in My Son, many scientists and archaeologists have found that in each group of works The architecture was built in many different ages that existed underground and existed on the ground.
Many architectures are built on the basis of old architecture. But, ancient architectures date back to when it is still an uncrypted mystery. The results of many excavations in the underground area of the Cham My Son tower were partially revealed to allow the conclusion that there was once an ancient My Son in the ground of the architectural works still present. That is the common judgment of archaeologists as well as specialized scientists who have been to My Son for many years.
The images revealed in My Son underground prove the existence of an ancient My Son in the ground, with many layers of architecture of different dynasties coexisting.
