Drain the pond water, discover the monstrous tomb below: The scene inside haunts the expert

In 2018, a pond outside Tam Quan Mieu village, Qiyang, Shandong province, China was drained and cleaned. No one thought that under the smooth pond surface there was a large ancient tomb. What is more frightening, it is the burial place of 17 sets of remains.

When archaeologists arrived at the scene, they discovered that it was the top of an ancient tomb made of green bricks! Experts quickly arrived on the scene. Based on the shape of the exposed part on the water surface, it can be speculated that this is a large tomb of the Han Dynasty.

Seven pumps are used to draw water day and night, the water in the pond is finally drained!

Scary weird mausoleum

After personally inspecting, the expert confirmed that this mausoleum includes two tombs in the east and west, with a total area of about 300 square meters! Before that, the tomb of Dam Thieu, the first tomb discovered in the Jiangnan region, was only 200 square meters wide.

During the excavation, the archaeological team discovered human skeletons at a depth of 1.5 meters. According to common sense, at this depth there can be no exhibits, let alone bones. Why is that?

After that, leg bones, skull bones, spine bones and many other parts continued to appear in various places in the tomb, the situation became more and more bizarre.

Experts surmise that the groundwater level in this place must be very high, so the skeletons 'drifted' to this location just 1.5 meters above the ground.

However, it did not stop there, when the mystery of the human skeleton was not solved, people continued to discover dog bones in the western tomb. This is also where the coffin is kept. It seems that the owner of the grave has sent his pets to the afterlife.

Next, poultry bones, beef bones, rodent ribs. were also found in turn. The owner of the strange tomb seems to have brought a farm to the grave!

In the Eastern Han Dynasty, the custom of burying the dead was basically abolished, almost all of which were replaced by ceramic statues, whether of emperors or aristocrats. But the owner of this large tomb still uses live animals to sacrifice. This can be considered an unusual sign.

The strange atmosphere continued. This time, the bones of two children really shocked the experts! People are bewildered by the bones of adults, animals and even children. What happened in the end?

Shocking conclusion about 17 sets of remains

Then, as the cleanup continued, anthropologists finally identified the bones of 17 people in two tombs to the east and west! This is a shocking conclusion.

Among these people are men and women, the elderly and children. Due to the disturbance of the groundwater, not a single skeleton in the tomb is complete. A total of 17 sets of these skeletons really pose a difficult problem.

Through the research process, archaeologists made some speculations:

The first is the impact of nature. The flow of groundwater for more than 1000 years may have brought bones from other graves in the ground to this tomb.

The second case is that members of a family are buried in a mausoleum. Maybe due to some reason, members of an extended family have passed away. The descendants of the family repaired this large tomb and used it to bury all these people.

The mausoleum is "hidden" in the pond without the villagers knowing it.

Unfortunately, in the tomb there are no other clues left. Experts can only surmise that this is a high-ranking official or a wealthy family of the late Eastern Han Dynasty.

In total, there are 17 people in the grave, they may have experienced the terrible scene together more than 1000 years ago. Skeletons cannot tell their own story, but have opened up 'big question marks' for posterity.

The discovery of Han tombs in Tam Quan Mieu was later selected as one of the top 5 archaeological discoveries in Shandong in 2019.

At the same time, in this mausoleum, people also find sophisticated stone portraits, valuable for historical research. Later, the local government was interested and decided to build a museum with an area of about 4000 square meters for visitors to admire.
