Electric lights from trees light up remote villages in Peru

In many villages scattered along the Amazon rainforest, people find it difficult to access living electricity. But this situation will soon change thanks to green electricity generation technology .

A team of researchers from the Technical University of Technology and Technology (UTEC) in Peru has invented a lamp that can last for hours for hours only by plugging in a plant pot , the Mother Nature Network on November 30 reported. . This is an invention that can make a big difference for the community of people living in remote areas of the world.
These lamps are called Plant Lights , which use high-brightness LED bulbs but consume less energy, can operate two hours a day. The lamp takes advantage of the energy stored in the soil , emanating from nutrients or microorganisms released by plants during development.
"We put trees and soil in a wooden basin installed in front of a safe irrigation system. Then, inside the pot, we placed the electricity generation system that stored the soil and electrodes that could transfer nutrients. of plants into electrical energy, " explains Elmer Ramirez, head of the Plant Lights research team.

The first test samples were put into use in the village of Nuevo Saposa in Ucayali, Peru. Before this project, residents here had to rely on light from oil lamps, though the smoke coming from the lamp could have a negative impact on health.
Technology can be used anywhere in the world, however, it is particularly suitable for use in the Amazon forest , where plants are readily available . This is a perfect example of a natural solution that helps leverage resources in the region.
"We believe this invention will help improve the quality of life for families. By using Plant Lights, they can access renewable energy sources to light homes, schools and workplaces. For many hours, this invention contributes to the sustainable development of residents , " said Jessica Ruas, UTEC University's marketing director.
