Elon Musk expanded the tunneling project to deal with traffic congestion

Boring Company of Billionaire Elon Musk is developing a network of tunnels under the city of Las Vegas in California, to boost traffic in the region.

Musk's plan is to put the Tesla Electric Vehicle (AEV) into use in the tunnel, which means that traffic can move kilometers underground in lightning speed. Musk founded Boring Company to "tackle the frustrating traffic problems, expand three-way roads" , meaning both flying cars and tunnels are on the development portfolio.

Musk is in the process of building a shuttle station under the Las Vegas Convention Center, where AEV Tesla cars will take visitors back and forth between showrooms. The shuttle is allowed up to 16 people and 62 cars can run simultaneously. This is the first commercial project of Boring Company founded in 2016.

This week, two new resorts in Las Vegas announced plans to join the tunnel network. Both the Wynn Las Vegas Resort and Resorts World Las Vegas are under construction and are expected to connect to the shuttle system at the Las Vegas Convention Center, scheduled to be completed in early 2021. The tunnel project is cost-effective. an estimated US $ 52.9 million, part of a larger regional expansion plan worth US $ 968 million. More than three-quarters of the tunnels have been completed.

The success of the original tunnels in Las Vegas means Musk is getting closer to the goal of creating "Vegas Loop," using underground electric cars to reach most places in the city. According to the Boring Company, this fast tram network will operate at speeds up to 249km / h. The company's next step is to connect with the existing tunnels in Las Vegas, reducing the travel time of the normal distance from 4 to 5 hours by car to less than 2 hours when traveling by tram.
