Excavation of a huge Egyptian god statue 3000 years
Egyptian archaeologists have discovered a giant statue of Thoth, in the ancient Egyptian beliefs as the Moon god, governing texts and knowledge.
In a press release, the Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities (CAS) said that archaeologists on March 16 discovered a giant statue of Thoth, in the ancient Egyptian beliefs, is the Moon god, governing the text and knowledge, the "God of the Scriptures".
CAS president Zahi Hawass said the 4-meter-tall statue was found in four parts, along with two other statues, at a construction site to reduce water levels in Louxor city, southern Egypt, to protect the temples of ancient Egyptian kings in this city.
This statue comes from the 18th Dynasty.
Mr. Mansour Boreik, the head of the ancient Egyptian antiquities bureau at Louxor, said this was the first time to discover such a large statue of Thoth.
Thoth is often referred to as the mandarin of Osiris, the god of herbs and the dead, or the senior secretary of this god. Because of his mystical knowledge, Thoth had a great help in burial of Osiris.
He also helped look after Horus while Isis raised the god. Later Thoth succeeded Horus to the throne in the Arab region and reigned the country in a peace for about 300 years, from 1550 to 1290 BC.
After that, Thoth kept the moon god in heaven.
The statues found near the temple of Amenhotep III (meaning "Amun god satisfied") are the ninth pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty, ancient Egypt during the New Kingdom, a golden age in Ai's history. Update.
Amenhotep III is the son of King Thutmosis IV and Queen Mutemwiya, ruling around 1391-1353 BC.
Mr. Zahi Hawass said that archaeologists also found the base of a statue made of albatross (material for making fine arts) is considered the base of the statue of Amenhotep III./.
