The species of the Java mouse deer is only a hamster when born .

Because the size of the species is far different from the regular deer, this deer only weighs about 100 grams and is about the size of a hamster. Meanwhile, the mature Java mouse deer is only 1kg heavier and rarely larger than the size of the rabbit. In addition, the Java mouse deer is very intelligent. Therefore, according to local legends, they are considered symbols of knowledge and intelligence.

The newly born Java mouse deer is the 8th person to be born at Bioparc Fuengirola zoo. His mother was born at the same ecological park in 2007. His father came from Lille Zoo, France last year.

Bioparc Fuengirola zoo employees estimate that there are currently only 43 individuals of Java mouse deer living in Europe. Therefore, the future of species is threatened by massive deforestation and replacing old forests with palm plantations, especially in Southeast Asia.
