Experts from climate change workshops in Bangkok (Thailand) have just concluded that emissions can be controlled at acceptable prices. They think that it is necessary to encourage renewable energy types, reduce deforestation and increase energy efficiency.

This is the third report of this year by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) to aim at calculating costs of the benefits of policy change.

IPCC's chairman, Rajendra Pachauri, said the report was " startling ": "All human society needs to move towards change in consumer culture" - He said so to reporters attending the press conference at Bangkok capital of Thailand.

A number of new provisions have been added to the last minute report, highlighting the possibility of using nuclear energy and lifestyle changes in the goal of cutting emissions.

Since 1970, the amount of greenhouse gases has increased by 70%, and will continue to increase from 25 to 90% in the next 25 years if "continued business as it is" , taking fossil energy as the main source. Ogunlade Davidson, a senior member of the editorial board, said: "If we continue to continue today, there will be a lot of problems."

IPCC made its first report in 1990 but suspended it for a long time until the beginning of this year released two further reports and this report is the fourth.

According to calculations, if CO2 emissions are cut sharply to keep 445-650 parts per million (ppm) at present, it will only cost about 3% of global GDP by 2030.
