Fossils of dinosaur eggs 70 million years in China

Fossils of 70 million year old dinosaur eggs were discovered at a construction site in southeast China.

Researchers at Guangdong Archaeological Institute discovered fossils of five dinosaur eggs buried in sandstone (sandstone) at a construction site in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, China. , according to Science Alert. These eggs are located at a depth of about 8m. There, they were covered and preserved from the end of the Cretaceous, about 70 million years ago.

"We found 5 eggs. Although there are 3 eggs that have been destroyed but still visible. The other two eggs are in the depths of the stone. Eggs are circular in shape, belonging to plant-eating dinosaurs." , Qiu Licheng, a member of the research team, said.

Fossil eggs have a diameter of about 13-14 cm. Egg shells are damaged to varying degrees. Inside the eggs are filled with sandstone.

According to the research team, Foshan City is located in the Sanshui Basin , where there has been a diverse development of animals and plants in the past. This may explain the occurrence of fossil dinosaur eggs in the area.

"There are two special things about the Sanshui basin. First, this is a place very rich in minerals. Second is a place with many fossils, such as dinosaur eggs from Cretaceous or fish fossils in the Paleogene period. This breakthrough is very important for our study of the regional climate and ancient climatic environments , " said the team member.
