Found 700,000 year old 'dwarf' hobbit bone in Asia
An Australian team found many hobbit fossils in the island of Flores, Indonesia, that adds to human evolution.
The jaws and teeth of hobbits have just been found in Indonesia.
The hobbit is known to be the main characters in the famous Lord Ring and The Hobbit films, adapted from the fictional novel by JRR Tolkien published in 1937. The truth about hobbits is still controversial, however, the latest discovery by archaeologists in Indonesia suggests "real hobbits".
The Hobbit (scientific name Homo floresiensis) is an ancient race that resembles a dwarf. They are only about 1m high on average.
Fossil teeth and bones of an adult and two young children Hobit was found to have supported the Hobbit hypothesis that had lived on Flores island about a million years ago.
One of the six fossil teeth was found.
"Hobbits are real," says Adam Brumm, an archaeologist at the Center for Human Evolution Research at Australia's Griffith University.
"They are an ancient group of people living separately from us and now no longer exist," he added.
Scientists say the fossil is evidence that the human body, including the brain, has shrunk after a long time living in a peaceful ecosystem and with few enemies. This makes them not need a big brain. This is a process known as "dwarfism" that is very common in animals. Many animals have shrunk their bodies 6 times to adapt to a less resourceful and simple environment.
The skull of a hobbit was found in 2014 in Indonesia.
The researchers believe that the fossils they found were descendants of the Homo erectus strain . Homo erectus is a human race of up to 1m8 tall, weighing 70kg, believed to be the first human species to leave Africa. Meanwhile, the Hobbit race is only 0.6-1.2 meters tall, with a much smaller skull.
"But obviously they are not stupid, they can do many tools from stone," the scientists added.
Dr. Van den Bergh said the fossil this time was 600,000 years older than the hobbit fossil found in Flores earlier."It helps us know that humans have been on this island since 1 million years ago."
The site of archaeologists found fossils.
The hobbit is an ancient race in Middle-earth. Although the exact origin of the hobbit is still a mystery, most of the first of them are seen in the northern part of Middle-earth and under the Anduin Valley.
Hobbit appearance is generally very similar to humans. They only have a few differences, such as the smaller and sharper ears, big, thick and hairy feet. Their average height is also much lower than normal people, ie only about 0.6 to 1.2m.
