New emeralds were found to weigh more than 1.1kg.

The company operating the mine just announced the discovery earlier this week.'It's really pure and has a perfect green color'.

The gem is called 'Inkalamu' or 'lion' in the Zambia dialect. It will be cut into small jewels and auctioned in Singapore next month.

Emeralds are rare and even more valuable than diamonds, because of the great demand from the market. Most of the world's emeralds are found in Zambia, Colombia and Brazil.

The emerald is estimated to cost 60 billion.

Elena Basaglia, a specialist at the mine, said the demand for Zambia emeralds is increasing in Europe. 'The quality, color, and purity of emeralds here make many rich people care, especially in Europe'.

'It is difficult to determine how much of this 1.1kg emerald will be cut into small pieces. But I believe this is a special gem that has never been and will go down in history , 'Elena added.

According to the Daily Mail, the value of 1 carat of emeralds falls to around £ 400, meaning the gemstone is priced at no less than £ 2 million (about VND 60 billion).

But this is not the largest emerald in the Zambia mine. In 2010, Zambian miners found a 6,225-carat jewel. It is called the 'elephant' because of its size.
