While public opinion is still eyeing new Intel or AMD product lines, Japanese electronics company has quietly developed a computer processor with the ability to perform 128 billion calculations per second.

Fujitsu spokesman said this speed is higher than the record that Intel is holding. For example, the high-end Xeon 5500 series based on Intel's Nehalem architecture can now calculate 76 billion operations per second.

Fujitsu's new chip, called Venus SPARC64 VIIIfx, uses a 45-mn production method, contains 8 cores and saves energy. Venus has made Fujitsu the first Japanese company to have a record in the field of CPU manufacturing for the past 10 years, but this is just a model product.
