On the afternoon of November 26, Mr. Ha Van Hoan - Director of the Management Board of Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve , Quang Tri province - confirmed that a sun bear had just been recorded through camera trapping activities in the forest area managed by the unit.

Previously, the Management Board of Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve coordinated with WWF to place digital camera traps in the forest area of ​​the unit to investigate the saola species. During this process, the camera traps detected and recorded many wild animals, including the endangered and rare Asiatic black bear.

According to the Management Board of Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve, this bear weighs about 150 kg. After recording, this unit has organized synchronous measures to protect and preserve this rare animal species as well as other wild animals.

" This is an animal species that is very vulnerable to extinction, so we need the cooperation of local authorities, agencies and local people to protect it" - the leader of the Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve Management Board hopes.

Previously, also through camera trapping activities, the Management Board of Bac Huong Hoa Nature Reserve recorded many animals listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red Book such as red-faced monkeys, pangolins, striped rabbits, white pheasants, red-shanked douc langurs, white-naped langurs, and many species of birds, weasels, civets, wild boars, etc.

The Moon Bear has the scientific name Ursus thibetanus or Ursus tibetanus , also known as the Tibetan Black Bear, Himalayan Black Bear or Asiatic Black Bear . The Moon Bear is listed in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List as a vulnerable species among endangered animals.
