Shigenori Goto, a local fisherman, said he found squid in a fishing net while pulling nets in the early morning 8/1. This fishing net is used to catch Amberjack, tossed into the sea at a depth of 70m and about 1km from the coast.

The giant squid is 4m long, weighs about 150kg and is defined as a male. " This is the first time I saw a large squid like this," Mr. Goto said.

After being brought to shore, the squid died and was transferred to a marine research institute in Niigata.

Squid is one of the largest invertebrates and also a mysterious marine creature in the world. The largest squid ever discovered by scientists in the world is 13m long.
