The three Aplin brothers said they had seen sharks or other sea creatures, but the huge giants like this had never been seen.

Jack Aplin said he and his brothers returned to measuring the squid size after an early dive trip. Unknown to whom to contact, the three brothers contacted the New Zealand National Water and Atmospheric Research Institute (NIWA) and were asked to keep the site intact for people to sample.

The ink is 4.2 meters long, 3 times the height of a normal person.

New Zealand conservation agency spokesman said it was a giant squid, 'not usually seen by humans, but not too rare'.

Social networking sites later shared the image that the three Aplin brothers took. Many people were surprised to see giant ink.

'It was a huge, terrible squid , ' said one. Others say: 'People are often concerned about sharks. But seeing this under the sea also scared me. '

The New Zealand Museum currently preserves a giant 5.4-meter ink.

Others compare with the giant squid on display at Te Papa, a New Zealand museum at Wellington. The giant squid kept at the museum is 5.4 meters long.

'This monster squid looks more impressive than ink at Te Papa' , the third person commented.

The discovery of giant ink probably brought luck to the three Aplin brothers. They caught a lot of marine seafood during a diving trip.
