German and Egyptian archaeologists have found six statues of Sekhmet in an ancient temple in Luxor city.
The group found artifacts at the Kom Hitan area in the pharaoh Amenhotep III temple of the 18th dynasty (1580-1314 BC), on the western bank of the Nile.
Black granite statues show Sekhmet sitting on a throne, holding "the key of life" in his left hand. They are buried beneath the east wall of the temple yard. Three statues were unearthed. In it, the lower part of the third statue is still buried in the ground and the other two statues lose some of the above.
The group discovered 30 statues of Sekhmet god in 7 different areas around the temple.
Goddess Sekhmet is associated with war and vengeance, representing the dark forces of the sun. On the one hand she could cause plague, on the other hand she could also treat diseases.
Pharaoh Amenhotep III collected a lot of Sekhmet statues because, according to some theories, he had problems with his health and teeth, so he hoped the goddess would cure him.
