The incident happened a month ago, when Mr. Phu dug a foundation to build a house for his children in Yen Du village, Duc Linh commune. At first, the excavator hit a crock that broke, and the coins broke. Mr. Phu's family gathered, weighing 30kg.

Mr. Phu then hired a metal detector to search around, discovered two more pots of crockery, containing 36kg and 46kg of coins. 3 pots of crockery are buried in three corners, in a triangle."The coin is made of alloy, round, square hole, diameter 2.4cm, 0.1cm thick, one side has Han characters" , Mr. Phu said.

On 20/12, the Ha Tinh Museum sent officials to his home to meet Mr. Phu to negotiate and buy the ancient coins for research, but the owner did not agree.

Through testing, coins have more than 10 types, mainly in the Tay Son period (1778-1802) . According to the museum officials, the area of Duc Linh commune in the past was the garrison of Phan Dinh Phung during the Huong Khe uprising, belonging to the Can Vuong movement (1885-1896), most likely this was the money of the remaining army.

" Coins are artifacts reflecting the economy, circulation of goods of a dynasty. It serves for political and cultural research and decoding. The museum is trying to persuade and help people." understand the historical meaning of coins, and then agree to resell or hand over , " said Museum official Ha Tinh.

  2. Why is a portrait on a coin a semi-face and on a banknote is a frontal image?
