Hong Kong housewives have been vigilant since yesterday, after the government reported finding a cancer-causing toxin in marine fish being sold on the special market.

According to the analysis, the poison was found to be a nitrofuran antibiotic. In small doses, nitrofuran can be used to treat conditions such as urinary tract infections but if taken in large doses, it can lead to cancer.

According to Dr. Mak Sin Ping - running the Center for Food Safety, the concentration of chemicals found in the scad and grouper samples is only low, not to the extent of strong alarm, but the center will continue closely monitor the situation to protect people's health. The number of fish contaminated with this antibiotic comes from mainland China. Last month, Hong Kong also discovered malachite causing cancer in freshwater fish imported from the mainland.
