The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter captured the Apollo landing site at an altitude of 21 to 24km, the AP said. The photographs were taken two weeks ago at the landing sites of Apollo 12, 14 and 17. Apollo 17 landing sites in 1972 were taken at the closest distance.

The photos that the ship sent were so high-definition that viewers could see the astronauts' path as they stepped on the moon, the subsidence created by the wheel of the autonomous vehicle. Even scientists can identify bags that astronauts throw away.

However, the sharpness of the image is not large enough for the viewer to see each of the astronauts' shoe marks.

Initially, scientists of the US Aerospace Agency (NASA) were confused when looking at photos, because they saw more than expected. For example, scientists do not think they will see insulation blankets of astronauts.

Mark Robinson, a professor of geology at the University of Arizona in the US, said there was little dust covering the man-made subsidence on the moon since the late 60s. According to him, those traces were only completely covered by dust after about 10 to 100 million years.
