According to a study by Drexel University, live chickens containing many bacteria such as salmonella, listeria . can cause serious health complications. The habit of washing raw chicken before cooking will increase the likelihood of spreading harmful bacteria rather than cleaning them. Drexel research leader Dr. Jennifer Quinlan told Davidwolfe: " Washing chickens before cooking does not remove bacteria but also accidentally spreads the bacteria around, causing poisoning."

Quinlan warns that chicken washing will cause water to splash around, spreading bacteria into hands, stoves, clothes and cooking utensils."Remember, bacteria like listeria that live on chickens can kill you. If listeria enters the bloodstream, the mortality rate is very high, especially in children when their immune systems are weaker than adults."

Dr. Quinlan warns that salmonella is extremely dangerous, if not treated properly, it could lead to death. This bacteria invades diseases such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, severe dehydration, reactive arthritis . In addition, campylobacter is a common bacterium found in raw chicken which also causes food poisoning.

Washing chicken before cooking with the aim of removing bacteria, dirt is a habit of most housewives. According to Drexel University research, 90% of people wash chicken before cooking. Therefore, how to properly handle the bacteria on raw chicken is a question many people care about.

Answering this question, Dr. Quinlan said, chicken should not be washed before cooking , instead just cooking chicken at a minimum temperature of 70 degrees Celsius . This temperature will kill bacteria so you do not need to worry.

In addition, you need to be careful when handling live chickens. Clean areas and surfaces for chicken and not with other food.
