Inside the world's most powerful physics machine

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Nuclear Research Organization (CERN) is one of the largest particle accelerators ever built, with a mission to find evidence of new materials.

Control center is the most important place of CERN.Right at the gate there was a large panel reminded of the giant LHC accelerator beneath the ground.

The LHC is placed in an underground tunnel system at a depth of 100 meters underground, which prevents radiation from collisions from escaping from the ground.The tunnel in the LHC has a length of 25.7km.

Many monitors display important information to control and operate the accelerator's operation.

The screen displays reviews and information from accelerators, electrical systems, and many other technical warnings.This information is monitored 24/7.

Control room is arranged in quadrupole magnet shape.Each pole is for a different accelerator.Here not only LHC but also many other accelerometers are controlled and operated.

In the middle of the control room was a meeting table, to inform and exchange important events.

The control center is operated by physicists and engineers, who are responsible for monitoring LHC activity and other accelerators.The oldest accelerator at CERN was built in 1959.

The staff here work 8 hours.When changing shifts, new arrivals will be fully reported on what happened earlier.

The working environment at the control center is very focused, but every time there are important findings, they all celebrate with champagne.Empty champagne bottles are lined up in long rows below the observation screen, showing continuous good news.

Contrary to many people's thoughts, the control center is quite quiet, not crowded.

This panel is one of the most important devices here.It allows control of LHC operation as well as access to different parts of the accelerator.

Operating under the tunnel is monitored by security cameras.

To get under the tunnel, employees need to wear helmets, special shoes, oxygen warning devices and oxygen tanks.
