Intelligent self-evacuation sweat

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Tangible Media Group has teamed up with New Balance to develop a shirt that automatically opens its vent when it detects sweat.

While many other manufacturers use chemical solutions for their clothing to help them breathe easier and more resilient, the bioLogic project was led by Lining Yao graduate student MIT Media Lab and production company New balance sports have other ideas. They have created a special vent that can automatically open to air-conditioning the wearer's sweat.

The secret is to open the vents automatically, thanks to a bacterium called subtilis natto . The protein, cellulose and DNA of this bacterium secretes a wide spectrum of molecules that will grow together and mate at the molecular level depending on the moisture.

By using a special printer to attach billions of subtilis natto bacilli to a thin film on a shirt, the researchers succeeded in exploiting the ability of the molecule to expand, thin when moisture increases.

In addition, the researchers applied these membranes to the athlete's exercise jacket. Thus, the vents on the shirt will automatically open when there is an increase in moisture due to athletes sweating and closed when sweat is gone.
