Israel discovered 2,700 years of underground water tank

Israeli archaeologists discovered a large water tank dating back to 2,700 years underground.

The underground water system was discovered near the city of Rosh Ha-Ayin, more than 22km east of Tel Aviv, dating back to the end of the Iron Age, surrounded by carved walls, New York Post on July 24 reported.

The underground system consists of a tank of nearly 4m deep, over 20m long under a large structure with walls stretching nearly 50m, according to the Israeli Antiquities Agency (IAA) statement.

It is likely that this is the location created by neighboring farms to control the water supply in the region.

" Gathering and storing rainwater is necessary in the old days. With an annual rainfall of about 500mm, winter rains in the area easily fill this huge reservoir," Itach added. Broken ceramic fragments were discovered on the floor near the tank, which could break from the bottle used to collect water.

On the wall near the entrance there are carvings of people, cross marks and plants, likely to be left behind by people in later times. There are 7 icons of people with arms outstretched, some seem to be holding an object.
