Italy shook again because of the earthquake

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in northern Italy last night, causing many buildings to collapse.

A building was damaged by the earthquake on May 29 in the city of Mirandola in northern Italy.

China Daily quoted the Italian Institute of Geophysics and Volcano (INGV) as saying that the earthquake occurred at 21h20 local time in the area that had been shaken by two strong earthquakes on May 20 and 29. The epicenter was below the city of Novi di Modena about 9.2km. Many buildings collapsed due to the earthquake, but officials have not announced the number of casualties.

Carlo Marchini, the mayor of Concordia sulla Secchia, told Rai TV that because the people in the city were still living in tents, no one was injured when the earthquake struck. Concordia sulla Secchia is located near the city of Novi di Modena and also shook because of the seismic.

At least 16,000 people in northern Italy have been evacuated since a powerful earthquake hit May 20 and May 29. These two earthquakes killed 24 people. Experts advise people to stay away from seismic buildings that can still happen in the following days. They also stressed that the epicenter of the earthquakes is moving north of Italy.

"We recorded hundreds of aftershocks in the past few days. So maybe the earthquake yesterday was just aftershock," said Alessandro Amato, an INGV geologist.
