Large fossil dinosaur footprints discovered

Chinese archaeologists say they have discovered many large fossil dinosaur footprints in the eastern province of Shandong.

According to scientist Vuong Hai Quan, of the Chinese Institute of Vertebrate and Paleontology, the footprints are in the middle of the Cretaceous period, dating back over 100 million years.

Mr. Wang said that this could be the result of an immigration or fleeing when dinosaurs eat plants "encountering carnivorous dinosaurs."

With this argument, according to Vuong, there will be more footprints found in this area.

So far, after 3 months of excavation on an area of 2,600m 2 in Hoang Hoa town (in Chau Thanh city), scientists have discovered more than 3,000 fossil dinosaur footprints.

Chau Thanh was dubbed the "Dinosaur City", because many dinosaur fossils were discovered at about 30 excavation sites.

Chau Thanh was recorded as the world's largest dinosaur fossil excavation site in 2008, with over 7,600 fossils found.
