Laser beams help the aircraft fly all year round

In the future unmanned aerial vehicles can fly year round throughout the sky thanks to the technology of charging under the ground laser.

The unmanned aerial view became more apparent after Lockheed Martin, the US military hardware corporation, experimented with rechargeable laser technology. Test flight takes place in a large tunnel. Technicians create wind in the tunnel to simulate actual flight conditions.

Stalker , the name of the automatic aircraft in the test, flew continuously for 48 hours. During the flight, it receives the laser from the ground for charging. The laser beam was launched by a special system of the LaserMotive company, Space reported.

"This test is one of the final steps in bringing laser-charged technology to the field ," said Tom Nugent, president of LaserMotive.

LaserMotive won the top prize in a space aerospace design competition by the US Aerospace Agency (NASA). In that contest, NASA asked candidates to create machines capable of receiving electricity from the laser to move along the cable to the sky.

"We were pleased with the result of the flight test. The laser's power can be a great thing in extending Stalker's flight time , "said Lockheed Martin Program Manager, Stalker's Tom Koonce.

In the next test, Koonce and his colleagues will give the Stalker a test flight outside.
