According to VOA, after nearly a week of burning heat in Bangladesh, thunderstorms on 12/5 occurred in 14 districts in the country. Storm caused lightning, causing at least 33 people to die. Another series of lightning on May 13 made at least 23 people dead.

Lightning strikes also injured dozens of people within two days. Most people who are killed or injured across the country are working in the field or in the open land when struck by lightning, police said.
Deaths due to lightning strikes often occur in the pre-monsoon season, usually from March to May, in rural areas, where people often work outside.
Abul Hossain, Pabna district police officer, said eight people in the district were struck by lightning, and the number of people killed in a short period of time "made many people panic".
Last year, 51 people died from lightning strikes in Bangladesh. But 90 people died, of which 56 died in two days, due to lightning strikes since March this year.
