Lizards record constipation in live animals

US scientists discovered a lizard in Florida state that the amount of accumulation exceeds 80% of body weight.

"This is the highest rate ever recorded in a living organism , " the Florida Museum emphasized in a Twitter post on April 28. "The accumulation block is a mixture of sand, insects and a lot of fat."

The northern curly-tailed lizard (Leiocephalus carinatus) is thought to have devoured almost a whole bag of fat at a pizza restaurant near Cocoa beach. Initially, scientists thought that the animal was "obese" or pregnant, but the CT scan results showed the shocking truth.

"I can't believe my eyes! If you look at 3D simulation, you can see that the feces take up most of the animal's body, leaving only a small gap in the chest for the heart, lungs and liver," the biologist said. study scientist Edward Stanley from the Florida Museum, a member of the research team.
