On the morning of October 20, Bach Mai Hospital (Hanoi) introduced a tomography machine that can take up to 64 slices at a time. This device can detect many cardiovascular diseases early, but other scanners cannot be seen.

That is the SOMATOM Sensation 64 from Siemens (Germany), currently only 2 in Vietnam. Professor Nguyen Lan Viet, Rector of Hanoi Medical University, a leading expert in cardiology, said that with the advantage of cutting very thin slices of 0.6 mm, the resolution is very high, this device can detecting very small lesions in the cardiovascular system such as swelling, narrowing, occlusion, calcification . In particular, it can find lung infarction lesions, which are difficult to detect by normal CT.

Multi-range tomography is also used to assess the ability of the heart to perfusion, check the results of stent or bypass surgery to treat narrowing of blood vessels. Because the dose is very low, the effect on the patient's health is minimized.

Professor Lan Viet also said that cardiovascular disease is increasing rapidly in Vietnam. If in the 1990s, the rate of hypertension was only 11%, now it is close to 17%. The number of people with coronary artery disease is also increasing. At the Institute of Cardiology (Bach Mai Hospital), this pathology accounts for 10% of hospital stays, nearly 8 times higher than in the 90s of the previous century.
