Mankind almost died out more than 100 years ago
Humans are lucky to escape the dinosaur-like end, according to a Mexican expert study.
A century ago, a comet that brought with it the destructive power that had wiped out the human race on earth was like an asteroid that put an end to past dinosaurs. For two days in August 1883, Mexican astronomer Jose Bonilla was the only witness when 450 celestial bodies flew across the sun's surface, with each celestial body covered by a sparkling mist.
When Mr. Bonilla wrote about his findings in French newspaper L'Astronomie , the editor of the paper said that the phenomenon was nothing more than a cloud of dirt or some bug hiding the Mexican expert's telescope. . However, until now, researchers at the University of Mexico unjustly dismissed colleagues in the past, assuming that these were parts of a giant comet that had lost Earth in the past.
So how big is this 450 comet? At the small end, they are only about 50m wide, but the largest part is up to 4km. Each comet carries more destructive power than an atom bomb. Even more impressive is that the original comet, before breaking into many smaller comets, must be as close as the famous Halley comet, or the celestial body that once destroyed the entire dinosaurs before.
Why do scientists now assume that what Mr. Bonilla saw must be a giant comet? Expert Hector Manterola of the University of Mexico explained that comets are the only celestial bodies in the solar system that have the misty shape of glittering like Bonilla saw.'Our hypothesis is that Bonilla saw a comet that crumbled in 1883, which could sweep the surface of the earth on the way , ' said expert Manterola.
The reason why at that time only astronomer Bonilla witnessed the magic scene, Mexican experts believe that there is only one explanation: the phenomenon of parallax. Because these comets came too close to the earth, from 600km to 8,000km, this phenomenon appeared. Only then areas of the same latitude as Mexico, such as the Sahara, northern India, and Southeast Asia, can see them approaching, just like in the case of eclipses.
According to experts, comets debris if hit by the earth will cause people to suffer the same fate as dinosaurs. In 1908, a similar object crashed into Russian territory, often called the Tunguska event, causing a massive explosion of more than 1,000 atomic bombs. If the Bonilla expert's observations were accurate, then the earth could face 3,275 Tunguska events within 2 days. And the result may be the complete extinction of the species.
