Official in charge of the area's disaster relief campaign, Cedric Daep, said authorities intend to evacuate nearly 50,000 people from villages within an 8km radius of the volcano from now until December 16. .

Speaking on local media network ABS-CBN, Albay Province Governor Joey Salceda announced that by the evening of December 15, nearly 21,000 people had been evacuated from the area.

He said: "Zero casualties are still our province's target" and argue that Albay province can successfully organize a large-scale evacuation before any eruption occurs.
