The biggest and most beautiful meteor shower of the year will appear tomorrow. If the weather conditions are favorable, astronomers in Vietnam can admire this amazing phenomenon.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Phuong, Deputy Secretary General of Vietnam Astronomical and Space Association, said that, along with many countries around the world, Vietnam can observe the meteor shower Geminids - Song Tu about 2am on the morning of December 14 .

At the peak stage, the number of light trails in the meteor shower can reach 120 tracks / hour. However, the moon is located in the center of the constellation Gemini, so its light blurs meteors, making observation difficult.

"The sky in recent evenings is often clear, not much dark so astronomers can observe the last astronomical phenomenon of this year," Ward said.

Dang Vu Tuan Son, chairman of the young astronomical club in Vietnam, said the observer did not need to use telescopes or any other objects but just to see the eyes.

"The too bright moon will obscure meteors at the center of the constellation Geminids. Therefore, to observe some meteors, we do not need to focus the point of looking at its center but looking at the regions. about 20 to 30 degrees from the moon, the darker areas nearby, so the opportunity to see a meteor will be bigger, " Tuan Son said.

According to Mr. Phuong, when observing the meteor, viewers need to select the open area to cover the whole sky, while looking towards the constellation Gemini is the center of the meteor shower in the east. When observing, people should not take their eyes off the sky, even at extreme times because when they were watching for 10 minutes, a streak of stars would be seen.

Geminids are a phenomenon that occurs every year as a series of small pieces of rock (meteorites) plunge into the earth's atmosphere when the earth passes through their space. The pieces of rock are remnants of the 3200 Phaethon comet left as it flies into the solar system.
