Mysterious earthquakes all over the world have found a solution

The birth of an underground volcano near a French island between Africa and Madagascar could shed light on a riddle that made it difficult for scientists since 2018.

Last year, with special seismic sensors, scientists discovered strange low-frequency ripples thousands of kilometers away from the newly discovered volcano. The hidden underground volcano is located 50km from the tiny French island of Mayotte, possibly associated with a series of mysterious earthquakes not long ago.

The French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) is tasked with clarifying the source of unexpected seismic activity that rocked the tropical island, between Africa and Madagascar, since 2018. While This small island has seen many tremors, from small explosions to the magnitude of 5.8 - the largest in the region in the past year, low frequency ripples have been detected by sensors away from Mayotte 17,000km.

According to a statement by the French Bureau of Geological and Mining Research, the team discovered a new volcano lying 3,500 meters from the water. According to this department, the birth of an undersea volcano was observed for the first time. It is estimated to be 800 meters high and 4-5 kilometers wide, with a 2km volcanic lava block emanating from it.

Robin Lacassin from the Acadut de Physique du Globe de Paris, one of the organizations involved in the mission, shared the sound of the volcano, as well as its image on the seabed.

Scientists are currently processing data and trying to assess seismic, volcanic and tsunami risks. However, the government, like the scientific community, still does not understand this special geological phenomenon.
