Mysterious treasures in Roman town buried with jewels, dolls and miniature skulls

Archaeologists have discovered a trunk at Pompeii (a Roman city buried by volcanoes near Naples, Italy) that contains many strange objects that may be part of the 'witch treasure'. .

Objects include jewelry, amber stone and amethyst, buttons made of bones, beetles, amulets, dolls, bells, fists, small skulls - and even penis zoom out.

Experts say these items may have been used in rituals involving reproduction, pregnancy or luck.

The volcano Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, buried ancient Roman cities including Pompeii, Oplontis and Stabiae under the ashes and rocks, and buried Herculaneum city in a mud stream.

Archaeologists regularly discover new discoveries at this UNESCO world heritage site, to increase our understanding of the events of disasters and those living nearby.

'There are dozens of lucky charms next to other objects that are believed to have the power to bring good luck,' Pompeii site director Massimo Osanna told Italian news agency Ansa about the latest discovery.

He thought that more likely objects belonged to a 'strange person' than a rich person.
