The traveling group consists of 5 women, 7 men, ages 29-42, and belongs to many different professions such as doctors, scientists, engineers, pilots, military officers .

Astronauts must complete two years of intensive training at Johnson Space Center before being eligible for space missions and joining NASA's existing 44 astronauts.

They will be trained in the spacecraft system, skills in space travel, teamwork, Russian language and other necessary skills.

After 2 years of training, the 2017 astronaut will probably receive research tasks on the International Space Station (ISS), or perform missions to explore deeper spaces in the universe with Orion ships. NASA and the final destination may be Mars.

This is NASA's 22nd astronaut group.

The first group Mercury 7 was selected in 1959. NASA currently has a total of 350 astronauts.

The selected candidates must meet the requirements as US citizens, have a degree in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and have at least 3 years of experience in related fields, or At least 1,000 hours of jet driving.
