The US Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) on May 22 announced the first "selfie" image of the Earth, a giant resolution photo of 36,000 collected snapshots on social networks. Record activities celebrating Earth Day in all over the world.

Aiming to create the first selfie for Earth, NASA has called on people all over the world on April 22 Earth Day to capture and post these holiday photos to social networks. Popular like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

The people of the world in 113 countries and territories across five continents responded to this call together.

NASA spent the following weeks collecting and selecting more than 50,000 words to create a product with a huge resolution of 3.2 gigapixel reproducing the Earth image from the Suomi climate satellite NPP.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Director of NASA Earth Science Division Peg Luce said the agency is delighted to receive a strong response from many countries, as people around the world join a joint activity to honor Mother Earth.

He hopes this activity will help further boost people's consciousness in protecting the environment as well as awareness of NASA's efforts to protect the Green Planet.
