A new species of squid is found by researchers in the South Indian Ocean.
New species of squid discovered.
In addition, its tentacles are quite long compared to the body and have a slightly bizarre shape different from the previously known common squid species.
The specimen is one of 7,000 specimens collected in an underground rock bottom of the Indian Ocean, after last year's expedition conducted by the IUCN probe of the British marine biodiversity conservation group.
The purpose of this six-week expedition is to clarify the mysteries of underwater reefs in the southern Indian Ocean and improve conservation and management of marine resources in the region.
So far, more than 70 squid species have been found from these reefs, accounting for 20% of the squid's global biodiversity.
