So how does a seemingly normal paper back up the liquid and the bacteria?
Waterproof paper has been developed by Italian scientists.
To create this miracle, the scientists made the special nanoparticles wrap around each tiny piece of paper like a cover that made the paper impossible to get wet with the liquid. In addition, iron oxide nanoparticles were added to produce magnetism and, finally, the presence of silver nanoparticles prevented the paper from being contaminated. The same process is used to create self-cleaning paper, and self-glow in the dark.
According to Dr. Roberto Cingolani, lead author of the study, the paper has the potential to be widely used to produce food packaging and medical products. Fluorescent and magnetic paper can be used to print money while waterproof paper is used to print important documents such as cultural heritage protection.
