New valuable and critically endangered plant species discovered

This is the result of joint research between Vu Quang National Park, the Vietnam Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources and experts from Japan.

According to the research results, the newly published plant species scientific name is Beilschmiedia Danhkyii with Vietnamese name "Chap Danhkyii" belongs to the plant family Lauraceae - one of the very diverse families in species composition in Vietnam. Vietnam, as well as in Vu Quang National Park, with medicinal values ​​and essential oils.

Morphology of Chap Danhkyii

Morphologically, the species "Chap Danhkyii" has a number of characteristics that are different from those of the genus "Chap" Beilschmiedia recorded and described earlier such as: A woody tree 5-8 m high, gray-brown bark. . Branches are hairy when young, light, gray-brown. Leaves are nearly opposite, petioles 0.6-1.3 cm long, with many iron-colored hairs when young. Flowers yellow to greenish yellow.

The name of the species Beilschmiedia Danhkyii is named after Mr. Nguyen Danh Ky - Director of Vu Quang National Park.

According to the research team, the species "Chap Danhkyii" lives at an altitude of 80 to 170 m above sea level. This species is assessed by the research team and proposed as critically endangered.

"The content and research results of the new species Beilschmiedia Danhkyii were published by the authors in an international journal. This is a species evaluated by the research team and suggested that the conservation level is critically endangered", the leader said. Vu Quang National Park said.
