New York storm

Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds this morning devastated New York City, flooding the subway system with the ground rail network and delaying many flights.

Countless trees were uprooted on cars or blocked streets. The roof of many houses is also blown away by the storm. Meanwhile, electricity has been cut in some places. This storm triggers a warning about whirlwinds and flash floods, but then creates a hot and humid weather pattern.

A woman died when her car was stuck in the tunnel and was stabbed by another car from behind. Many civil servants have stayed home from work because the transport sector advised people to avoid morning rush hours.

All subway routes running to downtown Manhattan are postponed during peak hours. Local high-speed rail lines connecting from neighboring areas such as New Jersey to New York were also affected.

Flights from John F. Kennedy flights are also delayed by one and a half hours. Flights from the city's second airport LaGuardia are delayed by at least an hour. The temperature in New York today is expected to rise above 38 degrees C.
