Only a few seconds immediately detected the drug thanks ... fingerprint

After taking fingerprints, it only took a few seconds, scientists discovered people using drugs.

Scientists from the University of Surrey (UK) believe that when sweat is released through the skin a person, cocaine, other types of drugs and their metabolites are also secreted. As a result, they have successfully tested a new method of identifying stimulants in sweat that are deposited only from fingerprints.

16 drug users were brought from a detox center to serve research. They wash their hands with different antiseptic and cleaning solutions to prove that hand washing does not affect the results. After that, each person gets 4 fingerprints on paper. The pieces of paper are then treated with solvent and shredded into triangles.

Cocaine and other addictive substances have a separate molecular weight. Therefore, the triangular pieces of paper containing fingerprints are placed in front of a spectral device capable of detecting the molecular mass of these substances. In just a few seconds, the scientists identified the presence of addictive substances in the human blood tested, exactly matching the saliva test results they had previously done to compare.

Each chemical has a certain molecular weight, which is a rule that scientists have applied in this new method. Through fingerprints, they have also discovered many other drug groups such as heroin, methadone, opioid analgesics, which are often abused as drugs.

The study has just been published in the scientific journal Clinical Chemistry. Scientists are still gradually completing their work and expected in just five years, it will be the standard method used in courts, prisons and other law enforcement agencies in the UK.
