After undergoing a heart valve replacement surgery, 18-year-old Robyn Cairney is now returning to practice to become a sports therapist.

Before that, Ms. Cairney suddenly collapsed in the gym class. When taken to the hospital, she was diagnosed with aortic stenosis, and had to replace the aortic valve to pass.

This is a complicated operation because Cairney's heart valve needs to be replaced with an animal heart valve.

Pig heart valves can work for about 20 years. Cairney underwent heart valve replacement surgery at Golden Jubilee Hospital (Scotland) in June 2009.

After 8 months, Cairney moved into rehabilitative practice. Cairney, now 20, decided to continue training to fulfill her dream of becoming a sports therapist.

Now, Cairney says that, except for a 25cm long scar, she feels her body is firmer, healthier than ever.
