A hammer shark caught in May last year in Florida, USA, is likely to enter a Guinness record

of the world with 55 pregnancies - the largest number of scientists ever encountered.
The team at the Mote Marine Laboratory, where the body of the shark was brought back for examination, said the pregnancies were almost full months and only a few more days would be born. The mother fish, weighing 580 kg, is determined at the age of 40-50.
In the past, it was believed that hammer sharks gave birth only from 20 to 40 animals per litter.
"Although I am grateful to the fisherman who sent the specimen to Mote, and we are understanding a lot about this creature from it, we are still very sad to see so many sharks in the belly of the fish mother is preparing to be like that, "said Dr. Robert Hueter, director of Mote's shark research center.
Fish caught off the Boca Grande area on May 23.
