Proposing to take the Nuclear Center out of Da Lat

On September 16, Secretary of Lam Dong Province petitioned Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc to take the Nuclear Science and Technology Center out of Da Lat City.

Mr. Huynh Duc Hoa, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Lam Dong Province in the meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister expressed the views of the provincial leaders and the aspirations of the people of Da Lat City about bringing the Science Center Nuclear technology 25-30km away from Dalat.

Mr. Hoa said that the planned location to build this center is located in ward 12 of Dalat city, next to the road connecting Da Lat and Nha Trang and only 7km away from Dalat.

Previously, the Minister of Science and Technology and Academician Nguyen Van Hieu had a meeting with Lam Dong province and said that "this center is absolutely safe and cannot have incidents" . However, provincial leaders still wonder because "nothing is impossible".

"The construction of the Center for Nuclear Science and Technology in Da Lat poses more psychological problems than safety issues," Hoa said.

After hearing the petition of the secretary of the provincial Party Committee of Lam Dong, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc noted but has not yet made a point of view and made a comment.

According to information from the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute, this unit wants to build a Center for Nuclear Science in Da Lat to attract more scientists to work. This center has an investment of about 500 million USD and is supported by Russia in technology.
