Rare and precious black hyenas appear on African grasslands

Tour guides and visitors are excited to see the grassland with the unique fur color near the Lemala Nanyukie campsite, Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, Africa Geographic on 9 August. A recessive gene causes too much secretion of melanin, turning its feathers into black instead of normal yellow-black dots. The special coat makes it stand out during the day and is difficult to detect in the dark.

Contrary to popular belief that black cats are bad luck, seeing the black cat-like creatures in Serengeti is especially lucky because they are rare. So far, only four cases of black bobbins have been recorded in East Africa.

Grassland lynx (scientific name Leptailurus serval) is a native African species. Their food is very diverse, often including rodents, reptiles, birds, frogs, insects. They often hunt by jumping up and grab the prey. Grass grass can also use the front legs to reach the cave to find or catch fish swimming in the water. They are skilled predators and rarely eat scavengers.
